BOSS GP EXPERIENCE

Jenzer Motorsport tried a new tack this weekend and entered the BOSS GP (Big Open Single Seaters GP) series for the first time with three drivers: Rembert Berg (NL), in a GP2 car, as well as “Luke Skywalker” and Christophe Hurni (CH) in a pair of World Series by Renault 3.5 cars. The series was part of the amazing 60th Intercoppa Europa Storica at the Autodromo Nazionale at Monza. The weather was good to us this weekend.

On Friday we got our first look at the relative performances of the drivers and cars in the free practice session. The Open class included a Jaguar R5, a Tyrrell 022 and an Arrows A22 Formula 1 car, while the Formula class included Champcars, Indycars and GP2 race cars, with the Masters class consisting of World Series and F3000 race cars. Overall there were 21 big open single seaters on the grid. Our drivers were well up the order and the tension mounted steadily ahead of the qualifying session.

Rembert ended up 4th on the grid in the Formula class, with Christophe 2nd and “Luke Skywalker” 5th in the Masters class.

As usual the first chicane was where it all happened at the start of the first race, and unfortunately Christophe was one of the drivers who ended up being pushed out of the race and having to retire with a damaged car. Rembert managed a superb first result stepping onto the podium in 2nd at the end of the race. “Luke Skywalker” equally shone in a fantastic race and secured an excellent 3rd place on the podium in his class.

The starting grid for race two was set based on the results of race one. Our drivers again performed superbly; Rembert held off several more experienced drivers and for the second time came home in a superb 2nd place in his category. This time Christophe managed to survive the first lap without sustaining any damage and was able to score a podium place with 3rd in class. “Luke Skywalker” had another excellent race too, this time finishing 5th.

This weekend laid the foundations for further participation in this fascinating series. Jenzer will be back in BOSS GP!
