Qualifying

Saturday, 03/10/20, 09.30 – 10.10, Weather: Rain, 14°C

The rules allow for two qualifying sessions of 15 minutes, with a 10-minute break in between. The Qualifying 1 times determine the grid for Race 1 and the times from Qualifying 2 determine the grid for Race 2. The starting order for Race 3 is based on the 2nd best lap time of each driver in either of the two qualifying sessions.
With dark clouds covering the sky, it didn’t take much before rain started falling over the Mugello circuit just when the two qualifying sessions were approaching. The rain had let up when the sessions got underway, but conditions were really challenging. Filip claimed a good 4th place, with Santiago also in a very positive 6th position. Francesco Braschi managed to qualify in 12th place, while Piotr and Jasin closed the session in 22nd and 24th respectively. In the second session, Santiago took another positive 6th place. Filip qualified 8th with Francesco right behind in 9th position. This time Jasin managed to improve up to 17th place, with Piotr closing in 22nd.

Race One (30 minutes + 1 lap)

Saturday, 03/10/20, 15.25, Weather: Rain, 19°C

It was a cool Saturday afternoon and it had poured down just before the cars made it to the grid for the start of the race. The track was very wet and the race started behind safety car, in very tricky conditions. Unfortunately, both Piotr and Francesco spun in the opening laps behind the SC and dropped down in 29th and 28th respectively. After two laps, the safety car came in as we were finally racing. Filip got away well and immediately overtook Mini for second place. He was still running in 2nd position when Bortoleto closed the gap with him and overtook him on lap 8. Filip crossed the line in a brilliant third place. Santiago got away well from 5th place, but an off track excursion backed him down in 20th position. He launched a recovery drive and eventually took 10th place right at the photo-finish. Despite spinning, Francesco fought his way through the field on his very first race. He settled in 15th place in the final stages and crossed the line in 14th. Jasin closed the race right behind him in 15th position after starting from 24th with a very solid progression. Finally, Piotr fought back to cross the line in 20th place.

Race Two (30 minutes + 1 lap)

Sunday, 04/10/20, 11.40, Weather: Overcast, 16°C

On Sunday morning, black clouds started building up and a few minutes before going to the grid, it began to rain. The track, that was drying up before, was now really wet and even if it finally stopped raining, race 2 started behind safety car. Conditions were really slippery and difficult and risks had to be made in order to overtake. At the restart, Santiago got away well to hold on 6th place. On lap 4 he got overtaken, but was still fighting for positions when he spun. He was able to continue, but dropped down to 14th place, where he crossed the line. Filip kept 8th place when the race restarted and drove well to take a good 6th place and solid points. Piotr finished in 16th position after driving a consistent race in tricky conditions. After spinning in the formation lap, Jasin tried to recover as much as he could and eventually crossed the line in 22nd place. Francesco started the race in 9th place, but due to the very slippery conditions of the track he lost some ground. He was in 14th place when, on lap 5, Francesco spun while trying a too optimistic overtaking manoeuvre and got stuck in the gravel bed. He was fine, but his race was over.

Race Three (28 minutes + 1 lap)

Sunday, 04/10/20, 16.40, Weather: Overcast, 18°C

The last race of the weekend took place in the late afternoon. Finally the rain didn’t come to ruin the party and slick tyres were safely fitted. Filip started in 7th place, but already at turn one he went off into the gravel. He managed to rejoin the race, but he was now last. As a safety car had to be deployed after a crash occured, Filip caught up the group and started his comeback. His rhythm was good and he was able to finish 11th. Francesco started right behind Filip, in 8th place, but lost some ground at the start. He crossed the line in 16th position after a race full of battles. Santiago drove well and secured another top ten finish, crossing the line in 10th position. Already in the opening laps, Jasin managed to gain positions and settled in 20th place, where he eventually crossed the line. Piotr drove a good race, starting from 27th position and crossing the line in 19th place with a very solid performance.
